The board of The Students’ Union of Trade Union Pro has appointed Jesse Kankanen as the Union’s Secretary General in its organizing meeting on 9.1.2017. The board’s decision was based on applications received during the application process opened by the board of 2016.
The new Secretary General has an extensive background in the trade union movement, both in the youth sector and the trade union in general. Kankanen has been a member of the board at OPRY, a member organization of the Trade Union Pro, was appointed as the first deputy member of the board at Trade Union Pro in the end of last year and has participated in STTK’s activities.
The newly-appointed Secretary General commented on the future of the Union:
“The skills, knowledge and fresh ideas of students should be introduced more extensively to the job market. The job markets of tomorrow require employees to have good networks and networking skills, not people that are good at writing a CV. That is why I believe that active and visible student unions within trade unions provide students with security and large networks, giving students a good reason to join trade unions through their respective student union.”
